Anthony Mackie (“Falcon and the Winter Soldier,” “Synchronic”) has signed on for the lead role in the live-action series adaptation of the “Twisted Metal” video game franchise at Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions.
The new series is an action comedy based on an original take by “Deadpool” scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick inspired by the vehicular combat games that began in 1995.
Mackie will play John Doe, a motor-mouthed milkman with no memory of his past. He’s tasked with delivering a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he faces savage marauders and other dangers including a deranged clown in an ice cream truck.
Mackie, Reese and Wernick will also executive produce alongside “Cobra Kai” writer Michael Jonathan Smith who will also write. Will Arnett and Marc Forman also executive produce.
