“Ant-Man,” “Shazam” & More Set For PVOD

Disney and Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” has set official home video release dates with an April 18th digital debut and a May 16th physical disc release.

No word as to when it will arrive on Disney+ as yet, but the digital debut comes exactly 60 days after the film’s arrival in cinemas. As delays go, that’s a little longer than standard these days and surprising considering the film’s disappointing box-office.

It marks a stark contrast to “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” with Warners pushing that underperformer to PVOD platforms tomorrow – just 22 days after it released in cinemas. Similarly “Creed III,” which was a box-office smash, hit PVOD last week – 28 days after its cinema release.

“Scream VI” is adopting a more standard approach with its digital debut reported online as being April 25th – 46 days after it opened theatrically. Paramount Pictures will likely adopt the same approach for “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” which means it should hit sometime in mid-May (no date has yet been set).

“John Wick: Chapter 4” has not set its digital release date, but a standby page on iTunes already selling the film for $19.99 whenever it is released. This has resulted in the film hitting #6 on the iTunes movie charts.

Finally, When to Stream on Twitter found a listing that suggests “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” could be hitting PVOD on May 9th, which would be 34 days after it hit cinemas.

As that’s a Universal title, that would fit in line with their exhibitor agreement which reportedly allows the studio to release a film opening to above $50 million to release on PVOD platforms 31 days or later after its theatrical debut. Universal has not confirmed or announced any home video plans for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” as yet.
