Another “Game of Thrones” Prequel Ordered

HBO

Max has officially ordered the new “Game of Thrones” prequel series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight”.

The title is based on George R.R. Martin’s popular trio of Dunk and Egg novellas. Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros. One is a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall who will one day become Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. The other is his diminutive squire, ‘Egg’ who is also known as Aegon V Targaryen.

Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.

This marks the second prequel to officially get ordered to series following “House of the Dragon”. Martin himself will be writing on the show and is an executive producer and writer alongside ‘Dragon’ producer Ira Parker.

‘Dragon’ showrunner Ryan Condal will executive produce, as will Vince Gerardis. Unlike the war epics of the other shows, the Dunk and Egg stories are lighter two-handers.

The announcement follows in the wake of “House of the Dragon” launching last year and generating 29 million viewers per episode, according to HBO.
