Announcement Teaser: “Godzilla Minus Zero”

Toho

It’s official, the sequel to Toho’s “Godzilla Minus One” has scored a title – “Godzilla Minus Zero”.

The title was just announced at Godzilla Fest in Japan with the original film’s writer/director and VFX whiz Takashi Yamazaki returning in the same capacities.

Shirogumi, Yamazaki’s company which handled the first film’s Oscar-winning visual effects, are back again for this.

Previously it was indicated by Toho International president Koji Ueda that the hope was to get the film out in 2026. It’s not clear if that’s still the case.

The highly acclaimed “Godzilla Minus One,” the second of the live-action Reiwa era movies after 2016’s “Shin Godzilla,” took place in devastated post-war Japan as the country is hit by a new wave of devastation unleashed by Godzilla.

It grossed $116 milion from a $15 million budget, was the highest-grossing live-action film to debut in Japan during 2023, and became the third highest-grossing non-English-language film in the U.S. market.

It also still holds stellar review scores with a 99% (8.5/10) on Rotten Tomatoes from over 200 critics and a 98% (4.8/5) from audiences.
