Animated “Star Wars” Unaffected By Closure

Lucasfilm

Recently came the news that due to economic factors, Lucasfilm has indefinitely closed its Singapore ILM visual effects and animation studio – the company’s lead studio on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars”.

In the wake of that, it has left people wondering how that closure will impact animated series currently in production – shows that include the third and final season of “Star Wars: The Bad Batch,” and a second season of “Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi”.

With ‘The Bad Batch’, social media postings by the actors indicate that all voice recordings for the final episodes were completed prior to the strike, but the episodes will be in production for months to come ahead of a 2024 airing.

Now Joel Aron, who serves as director of cinematography, lighting & VFX at Lucasfilm Animation, has done a posting on Twitter to update fans on where things stand:

“Just to be clear, we’re not affected by this closure. LAL [Lucasfilm Animation Limited] is not in Singapore :) we’ve always been at either the ranch or where we are now in SF (or working from home!). We are still ferociously busy working with [Taipei-based animation studio] CGCG to bring you all s3 of ‘The Bad Batch’ and ‘Tales of the Jedi.'”

Both shows announced their upcoming seasons at Star Wars Celebration earlier this year, with ‘Bad Batch’ expected to have a final run of sixteen episodes.
