After previously working together on 2005’s “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” actress Angelina Jolie and filmmaker Doug Liman are reuniting for the spy thriller “The Initiative”.
Universal Pictures is reportedly locking down final deal points to land the project, beating out several other studios for the film which will have Jolie starring, Liman directing and F. Scott Frazier (“XXX: The Return of Xander Cage”) writing the script.
Dubbed ‘Training Day’ in the world of espionage, Jolie plays a rogue master spy named Bright who works outside the lines.
When a new agent named Charlie joins Bright’s team, he soon finds himself in situations where he isn’t sure whether his new boss is trying to kill him or simply is willing to do whatever is necessary to protect the free world.
Joe Roth and Jeff Kirschenbaum will produce. The project is being fast tracked with shooting to potentially begin in very early 2026.
This fits in with reports the other day that Liman’s original next film, the Tom Cruise-led underwater thriller “Deeper,” has stalled over budget and filming logistical issues.
