Newen Connect and Andy Serkis’ Imaginarium Productions are teaming for “Madame!,” an epic period series on the life of French artist, entrepreneur and world-famous wax museum founder Marie Tussaud.
Serkis created the series and will act as showrunner and director. Jonathan Cavendish and Marie Guillaumond will produce the project, which is in early development.
The series is being dubbed the untold story of Tussaud who honed her craft during the age of enlightenment in 18th century Paris and escaped to England during the Reign of Terror amidst the French Revolution.
She founded her now-legendary Madame Tussauds wax museum in London in 1835. Along the way, she sacrificed relationships with nearly everyone close to her, including her own children, in order to leave a legacy.
Serkis says in a statement that the tone won’t be a serious straight-up affair but rather a “hilariously crazy, no holds barred, anarchic, punk caper conjured from the curiously twisted mind of a fabulously post-truth executioner’s daughter.”
