Andrew Lloyd Webber: “Cats” Was “Ridiculous”

A lot has been written about the Tom Hooper-directed live-action film adaptation of the musical “Cats” be it film critics, musical lovers, people who worked on the film and just the general public who have all been nearly universal in their damnation of the furry nightmare of a feature.

From the whole ‘Butthole Cut’ saga to the endless memes and jokes about the effects, the first warning signs began with the first trailer and never went away. Throughout it all, two people who have remained mostly radio silent about it – Hooper himself and the original musical’s Oscar and Tony-winning composer Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Webber has now finally broken his silence about the movie and does not approve, mostly because Hooper decided to not involve him other the other creators:

“The problem with the film was that Tom Hooper decided that he didn’t want anybody involved in it who was involved in the original show. The whole thing was ridiculous.”

Webber’s only contribution to the adaptation ended up being to the soundtrack with the song “Beautiful Ghosts” which he co-wrote with Taylor Swift and ended up being one of the only things about the film that wasn’t widely panned.
