We’re still a while away from the second season of “Andor,” but one thing we do know quite clearly is that it’s a season of four distinct three-episode arcs – each separated by a year to account for the four years between the events of the first season and “Rogue One”.
Whilst some “Rogue One” characters will be introduced, plenty of faces that began their involvement in the franchise in the first season are returning. This includes the trio of Adria Arjona as Bix, Kyle Soller as Syril Karn, and Denise Gough as Dedra Meero.
Speaking with EW for the latest episode of its Dagobah Dispatch podcast, the trio have each talked about how their characters change for not just the start of the new run (which begins one year later), but also between each of the arcs.
Arjona says she’ll play at least three different versions of Bix throughout the season:
“I get to grow with Bix. And it continues to happen throughout the entire season. So you get to meet, like, three different versions of Bix. There’s an anger that I hope builds in Bix. Whether it’s revenge or whether it’s a closeness with Cassian because he saved her – of course, she has to lean in. She’s always been a part of it, and I think by episode 9 of season 1, it was obvious someone must do something.”
Soller confirms there are changes in his character from last season and within this one:
“There’s a year gap… before we even start season 2. So these characters have progressed so much from when we last saw them. And then each character does have about three different versions that they wind up continuing to grow through and towards. Syril is on his kind of journey of trying to reach the upper echelons with the Bureau of Standards. And I’m trying to see whatever happens from that little moment covered at the end of season 1”
Gough got more specific about what happens with Dedra, especially after the events of the first season finale:
“The repercussions of what happened at the riot, she’s going to have to figure out what happens to her after that. Because you see her at her weakest at the end of the season of season 1. She’s still on her journey of wanting the world to be far more ordered than it is… I get a lot of women sending me footage of themselves dressed as Dedra walking in and out of rooms and drinking coffee, which I find inspiring. And unnerving.”
The second season of “Andor” continues to film in the UK despite the WGA writer’s strike – though showrunner Tony Gilroy isn’t in production in alliance with fellow writers.
For now, the show’s second season is still slated to premiere in August 2024.
