The official WGA website has released a partial list of writers who worked on the upcoming “Star Wars: Andor” series – or more specifically the first seven of the twelve episode run.
Tony Gilroy, who serves as showrunner, penned the first three episodes. The “Rogue One” co-writer penned and directed the acclaimed George Clooney-led “Michael Clayton” along with writing the original Jason Bourne trilogy and “Devil’s Advocate”.
Dan Gilroy, Tony’s brother, penned episodes five and six. He’s best known for writing/directing the acclaimed “Nightcrawler” along with “Roman J. Israel, Esq.” and “Velvet Buzzsaw,” along with scripting “Kong: Skull Island”.
Finally, episode 7 has been penned by writer & journalist Stephen Schiff who won multiple awards (including the Peabody) for his work on FX’s highly acclaimed “The Americans”. He also executive produced Showtime’s “Super Pumped” and penned the scripts for Clint Eastwood’s “True Crime” and Oliver Stone’s “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps”.
Schiff in fact was set to be the original showrunner, but he departed the series prior to production kicking off with Gilroy stepping in to replace him. No writer has been listed for episode four or any episodes from eight onwards as yet.
Not credited but known to be on the writing team are Beau Willimon and Jared Bush. Willimon created the U.S. version of “House of Cards” and penned the films “Mary Queen of Scots” and “The Ides of March”. Bush penned Disney animated smashes such as “Moana,” “Encanto” and “Zootopia” and actually originated the “Andor” project.
“Andor” will explore how the Rebellion rose from the shadows of the Empire, setting the events in the five years that lead up to “Rogue One” and the original “Star Wars” trilogy.
Production on the second season of twelve episodes is expected to begin this Fall. Diego Luna, Genevieve O’Reilly, Forest Whitaker, Stellan Skarsgard, Adria Arjona, Kyle Soller, Denise Gough, and Robert Emms star.
“Andor” premieres with two episodes on Disney+ on August 31st.
