Siddharth Roy Kapur has scored the exclusive screen rights to William Dalrymple’s bestselling 2019 historical epic “The Anarchy: The Relentless Rise Of The East India Company” novel.
The book spans over two centuries, covering how the infamous East India Company rose to prominence against the decline and fall of the storied Mughal Empire.
The story shows how a provincial trading start-up run by thirty people from an office only five windows wide in a nondescript building turned into the rulers of an entire sub-continent and establishing the richest and most powerful empire in the history of the world.
Kapur (“Dangal,” “The Sky is Pink”) is plotting a major TV adaptation of the text and is now bringing together an international creative team to craft the script. The show will be constructed in multiple languages, though English will also feature heavily.
