One of the most iconic actions films of the 1990s, Renny Harlin’s “Cliffhanger,” is getting a remake.
Producer Neal Moritz is reportedly developing a new version of the Sylvester Stallone-led 1993 mountain-climbing actioneer, this time with “A Girl Walks Home Alone At Night’ and “The Bad Batch” helmer Ana Lily Amirpour attached.
The new take is said to be searching for a female lead to take on the Stallone role, while actor Jason Momoa is reportedly in talks to make a cameo. The script for the new take is being penned by “Creed II” writer Sascha Penn.
The original remains one of Stallone’s most entertaining works. In it a group of thieves pull off an ambitious mid-air heist, only to lose the money on a mountain. Stallone’s Gabe, an expert climber who lost his friend’s girlfriend in a climbing accident a few years before, is visiting his old haunt and is soon forced by the crooks to help rescue the three caches of money that fell. Janine Turner, Michael Rooker, John Lithgow and Caroline Goodall also starred.
Stallone is reported not involved in the new version in any way and the film is being sold as a package during this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
