AMC+ series “Firebite” has commenced production in South Australia this week with Shantae Barnes-Cowan, Yael Stone, Rob Collins and Callan Mulvey joining the cast in leading roles.
The high-octane series follows two Indigenous Australian hunters, Tyson (Collins) and Shanika (Barnes-Cowan), on their quest to a remote desert mining town in the South Australian desert where the last vampire stronghold resides.
The creatures were shipped from Britain to Australia in 1788 by the colonial superpower to eradicate the Indigenous populations and now these undead shelter in the underground mines and tunnels that surround the town until the present day – and their number is growing.
AMC Studios and See-Saw Films are backing the eight-episode series which will debut on AMC+ later this year.
The series was created and written by Warwick Thornton (“Sweet Country”) who also directs along with Brendan Fletcher (“Mad Bastards”) and Tony Krawitz (“The Tall Man”).
