AMC Networks today announced that actors Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira will reunite for a new series in the expanding universe around “The Walking Dead”.
The series will continue the journey and love story of the Rick Grimes and Michonne characters with the actors actively involved in conceiving the creative and the continuation of their characters’ story.
This would replace the long talked about, but never quite coalescing, planned movie continuation of Rick and Michonne’s characters. Scott M. Gimple will serve as showrunner on the series, which will begin with six episodes in 2023.
Rick was last seen being taken away in a helicopter early in the show’s ninth season while Michonne left in search of Rick halfway through the show’s tenth season. The series will be one of three new “Walking Dead” series coming in 2023 that continue the stories of fan-favorite characters – the others being “Isle of the Dead” with Negan/Maggie and the Daryl-led spin-off.
Both actors appeared on stage as part of the final panel for the eleventh and final season of “The Walking Dead” at Comic-Con with the last handful of episodes of that show set to air from October 2nd. A trailer for that new run can be seen below.
