AMC Networks has landed the North American rights to the Clive Owen-led drama series “Monsieur Spade” which will be shot in France this summer.
The project centers on famed author Dashiell Hammett’s iconic detective character of Sam Spade (Owen), the leading man of his 1930 work “The Maltese Falcon” which was later adapted to the screen with Humphrey Bogart in the role.
In the story here, Spade (Owen) is living out his golden years in the South of France in 1963 at the end of the Algerian War – years after the events in ‘Maltese Falcon’. He soon finds his tranquillity interrupted.
Hailing from “The Queen’s Gambit” co-creator Scott Frank and “City on a Hill” showrunner Tom Fontana, the pair will executive produce and write with Frank to direct. The series will be a Black Bear Television and Haut et Court TV co-production.
