AMC Theatres, the largest theater circuit in the United States, has said it will delay re-opening its cinemas until the end of July due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
The announcement was expected following the shifting of tentpoles “Tenet” and “Mulan” by several weeks to mid-late August.
AMC had planned to open the majority of its locations, or 450 theaters, on July 15th with the remainder to follow suit by the end of the next week. Now it’s shifting that 450 cinema opening start to July 30th and the rest in early August.
Fellow exhibitors Cinemark Theatres and Regal Cinemas are expected to do the same shortly.
