Amazon’s “League” Unrenewal Draws Response

Amazon

On Friday came the news that Amazon Prime Video has reversed its decision to renew the period baseball drama “A League of Their Own” for a shortened four-episode second season.

The 1943-set show deals with the formation of the Rockford Peaches, a women’s team in the nascent All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.

The show, along with the costly sci-fi series “The Peripheral,” both had scored renewal orders from the streamer months ago. The streamer reportedly cited the delays caused by the strikes as their reasoning for the decision.

Now, in a post to Instagram, co-creator and actress Abbi Jacobson responded to the news and to thank fans for supporting the series. She revealed she’s mostly upset about Amazon blaming the decision on the strike, saying:

“What luck I have had to get to tell these stories and play this character I love so much. What a rare thing in life. And so I am sad today. To blame this cancellation on the strike is bulls— and cowardly. But this post isn’t about all that. About all the ways this show has been put through the ringer. Not today.

This post here is about the special show I was lucky to make with so many incredibly talented artists and actors and writers and crew. A show I’m so proud of. Filled to the brim with stories worth telling. Full of so much heart and soul and value. Thank you for watching.”

This reversal of the renewal comes after comments just a month ago from Amazon Studios Television chief Vernon Sanders who suggested to The Wrap that the company would be open to continuing the series beyond a second season.
