Amazon is moving forward on a live-action “Spider-Man Noir” series.
Currently untitled, the series will follow an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City. The show will be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker.
The Spider-Man Noir comics debuted in 2009 and followed a version of the iconic superhero who lives in New York during the Great Depression. Milo Ventimiglia played him in the animated series “Ultimate Spider-Man,” Nicolas Cage memorably voiced the character in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”.
Oren Uziel (“The Lost City,” “Mortal Kombat”) will serve as writer and executive producer and developed the show alongside acclaimed ‘Spider-Verse’ producers and “The LEGO Movie” directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and former Sony studio chief Amy Pascal who all executive produce.
It marks the second project based on Sony’s Marvel characters setup at Amazon Prime Video and MGM+ with the first being the “Silk: Spider Society” series from showrunner Angela Kang.
Several other shows are in the works and it is unknown at this time which other Marvel characters will be featured in the other Amazon shows. Sony currently controls over 900 characters associated with the Spider-Man franchise.
Sony has two ‘Spider-Verse’ sequels on the way with the Spider-Man Noir character not expected to return. Also on the way is a third “Venom,” “Kraven the Hunter” and “Madame Web”.
