Amazon Prime has renewed its supernatural thriller “The Rig” for a second season with filming to kick off later this year in Edinburgh.
Martin Compston, Iain Glen, Emily Hampshire, Rochenda Sandall, Owen Teale, Mark Addy, Molly Vevers, Abraham Popoola and Stuart McQuarrie will all reprise their roles from the series which premiered on the service at the start of January.
The first season is set onboard the Kishorn Bravo oil rig off the Scottish coast. The rig is enveloped in a mysterious fog that cuts off all lines of communication as members of the crew begin to be ‘taken over’ by something from below the surface.
The second season sees the survivors, having been helicoptered off the rig, taken to a new location where fresh danger awaits. They must contend with swirling conspiracies, conflicts, and new threats from the depths of the world’s oceans.
The series is created by David Macpherson and directed by John Strickland, who executive produces alongside Derek Wax. Macpherson says in a statement:
“In series two, I’m looking forward to expanding the world of our show through the eyes of our excellent cast, as we deliver more shocks and thrills and delve deeper into both our characters’ and our show’s expanding original mythology.”
This marks Amazon’s second UK original drama to be renewed in recent months following “The Devil’s Hour”.
