Amazon officially given the green light to the long-in-development hour-long series adaptation of Penny Marshall’s 1992 film “A League of Their Own” about the early days of women’s professional baseball.
Dubbed a reinterpretation, the new version hails from Abbi Jacobson (“Broad City”) and Will Graham (“Mozart in the Jungle”) . Jacobson also stars along with Chante Adams, Emmy nominee D’Arcy Carden, BAFTA winner Gbemisola Ikumelo, Kelly McCormack, Roberta Colindrez, and Priscilla Delgado. Molly Ephraim, Kate Berlant, and Melanie Field have recurring roles.
The new series promises to examine issues of race and sexuality in the context of the generation of women who played the game. The pilot was directed by Jamie Babbit (“Silicon Valley,” “Russian Doll”) who will also serve as an executive producer for Sony Pictures Television.
