An acquisition rumor involving a potential purchase of games publisher Electronic Arts by Amazon has been shot down by CNBC.
Rumors have been circling about a potential EA buyout for some time, with numerous tech giants all listed as potential buyers.
USA Today originally posted a report from one of their content partners that has been subsequently removed and corrected. That report alleged Amazon was set to announce on Friday that it has tabled a formal offer to purchase EA.
Now though, CNBC’s David Faber has shut down the talk saying: “I have talked to some people who would actually know if there’s something going on, and they say there’s nothing going on.”
EA shares jumped more than 4% in afternoon trading after the initial report.
