Amazon Prime Video has picked up the untitled scripted series currently in development that features Nicolas Cage as Joe Exotic, the infamous star of Netflix’s popular docuseries “Tiger King”.
Previously residing at CBS TV Studios, the series hails from producer Brian Grazer, “American Vandal” showrunner Dan Lagana, and Paul Young. Amazon Studios, Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios are all producing with Lagana serving as showrunner.
Based on a Texas Monthly article, the series centers around Joe Shreibvogel (Cage) – the eccentric, exotic zookeeper in Oklahoma who fights to keep his park – even at the risk of losing his sanity. The series will live in the lion’s den with Joe, explore how he became Joe Exotic, and how he lost himself to a character of his own creation.
The project is separate from “Joe Exotic,” the limited series starring Kate McKinnon as Carole Baskin which has received a joint straight-to-series order by NBC, Peacock and USA.
The real Joe Exotic is currently in prison after being sentenced to 22 years for his role in a murder-for-hire plot against Baskin.
