Amazon Studios is reportedly in final negotiations for a series adaptation of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’ comic book series “Criminal” reports Above the Line.

Brubaker, one of the most celebrated comic writers ever with multiple Eisner and Harvey Awards for Best Writer, will serve as showrunner and executive producer with a writers room already up and running at Amazon who have made it a high priority.

The series is said to be “an interlocking universe of crime stories” based on his award-winning comic book series which would suggest an episodic anthology series.

Brubaker previously told Deadline that it “tells the interweaving saga of several generations of families tied together by the crimes and murders of the past.”

Former Legendary Television execs Nick Pepper and Matt King are expected to have a credit on the work which was one of several crime saga works published by Brubaker alongside “Incognito,” “Fatale,” “The Fade Out,” and “Kill or be Killed”.

The news comes as Brubaker is separately co-writing a feature adaptation of his graphic novel “Pulp” with Tom McCarthy.
