Amazon Studios is planning to produce the spy thriller feature “All the Old Knives” starring Chris Pine and Thandie Newton and based on the acclaimed novel of the same title by Olen Steinhauer.
The story is set in Carmel-by-the-Sea and follows two former lovers – Henry is a CIA agent posted in Vienna, and Celia who retired from the agency five years ago.
The pair reunite for dinner in an idyllic town where talk turns towards an infamous plane hijacking which left all onboard dead and is considered the Vienna station’s greatest failure to date. As dinner progresses, it becomes clear one of them won’t make it out alive.
The author also adapted the screenplay while Janus Metz (“ZeroZeroZero”) will direct, taking on a gig that Neil Burger was lined up to helm in 2014. Steve Schwartz, Paula Mae Schwartz and Nick Wechsler will produce for Chockstone and eOne.
