Amazon Prime, “Transformers” filmmaker Michael Bay and TV writer Joe Barton are reportedly developing a currently untitled bounty hunter-themed action drama series. Barton (“Giri/Haji,” “The Lazarus Project”) created and penned the series with Bay set to direct at least the premiere episode.
The story centers on an American bounty hunter working South of the border in Mexico who finds himself in a desperate fight for survival when the man he’s been chasing down lands them both in trouble with a dangerous Mexican cartel.
Bay says the project was inspired by a meeting with a former US Federal Agent who now lives a fun, relaxed lifestyle surfing in Costa Rica. The man supports himself by occasionally “tracking down ‘Bad Gringos’ hiding out down in South America”.
An episode count for the project hasn’t been revealed, and the project is far too early in the process to discuss casting.
A+E Studios, Range Studios, Amazon Studios, Platinum Dunes, Range Media Partners and Wise Entertainment are all behind the project which is going up against a similar ‘Gringo Hunters’ thriller series in the works at Imagine Television and Netflix and based on an article in the Washington Post.
Barton is currently developing a limited series adaptation of “Amadeus” for Sky Atlantic and wrote the newest “Cloverfield” installment at Paramount Pictures and has “The Union” film in the works at Netflix with Halle Berry and Mark Wahlberg.
