Filmmaker Alma Har’el (“Honey Boy”) is set to direct a film adaptation of Walter Tevis’ celebrated 1980 sci-fi novel “Mockingbird” at Searchlight Pictures.

Set in an apocalyptic future, humanity has been torn apart by narcotic bliss and an addiction to electronics so the population is dwindling and the arts are suffering.

However, there’s still hope centring around a complicated love triangle between a man, a woman, and an android seeking assisted suicide.

J. Miles Dale and Robert Schwartz will produce. Tevis penned the original “The Man Who Fell To Earth” novel which gets a TV series adaptation on Showtime starting this weekend.

Har’el also directed the upcoming Apple TV+ limited series “Lady in the Lake” starring Natalie Portman and Lupita Nyong’o.
