Allen Hughes To Direct Snoop Dogg Biopic

“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” co-writer Joe Robert Cole and “Menace II Society” co-director Allen Hughes are teaming on a biopic of iconic rapper Snoop Dogg.

Snoop shot to fame in the early 1990s West Coast rap scene thanks to his collaborations with Dr. Dre and his two albums Doggystyle and The Doggfather. He has 35 million albums sold worldwide to date.

He parlayed that into a media and business empire, becoming an actor, DJ and media personality as well as an entrepreneur in the fields of technology, consumer brands, food and beverage, and cannabis.

Snoop is reportedly heavily involved with the project which will incorporate music from his past catalog and be crafted for his Death Row Pictures label. He is also producing the feature along with Sara Ramaker and Hughes.

Snoop says in a statement: “I waited a long time to put this project together because I wanted to choose the right director, the perfect writer, and the greatest movie company I could partner with that could understand the legacy that I’m trying to portray on screen, and the memory I’m trying to leave behind. It was the perfect marriage. It was holy matrimony, not holy macaroni.”

Universal has had two big success stories with rapper biopics with both 2015’s “Straight Outta Compton” about NWA, and 2002’s “8 Mile” inspired by Eminem’s life story.
