“Ex Machina” and “The Danish Girl” actress Alicia Vikander has nabbed one of most coveted leading roles in Hollywood – she’ll play Lara Croft in the upcoming reboot of the “Tomb Raider” film franchise at MGM, GK Films and Warner Bros. Pictures.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” star Daisy Ridley was also rumored to be in the mix, but Vikander was always said to be the favorite, but offers were waiting on a new draft of the script to be delivered to the studio.
Norwegian director Roar Uthaug is on board to direct the film which will be more in line with the gritty reboot of the 2013 video game series and will follow a young Lara before she became the titular raider of tombs. Graham King will produce.
Angelina Jolie starred as the British archaeologist in two previous films in 2001 and 2003. Vikander has three films opening this year – “Tulip Fever,” “Jason Bourne” and “The Oceans Between Us”.
