“Reacher” star Alan Ritchson has confirmed he’s had discussions that could see him joining James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe.
Ritchson has played two DC characters to date – Arthur Curry/Aquaman in “Smallville” and Hank Hall/Hawk in “Titans”. Previously, he turned down suggestions about taking over the Aquaman role again.
More recently, rumours have swirled that he’s up to play Batman/Bruce Wayne. Speaking with Screen Rant, Ritchson has partly shot down that fancasting, saying the role he wants to play is someone decidedly ‘messier’ than most heroes.
Asked if there was a chance of him joining the DCU and if he’d potentially be interested in playing a villain. He says:
“Yes. That’s the conversation that I’ve been having with them is like, ‘I want to play somebody a little messier.’ And I told them, I said, if I’m going to do this, I described to them the kind of personality that I’d want to play and what that would mean to their world, and I think it’s something everybody wants to see right now over there. So yes, I want to play somebody a little dirtier than your typical clean-cut protagonist.”
What the role could be isn’t clear. The next three DCU projects – “Supergirl,” “Lanterns,” and “Clayface” – have all wrapped filming with “Man of Tomorrow” to shoot early next year.
