With the first two episodes of “Star Wars: Ahsoka” out, much of the conversation surrounding the series has been about a certain character surviving a severe wound.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “AHSOKA”
The show’s first episode ends with a lightsaber duel between returning ‘Rebels’ character Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and new antagonist Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno), one which ends with Sabine being stabbed in the stomach and right through her back before collapsing on the ground.
Sabine is then seen alive in a hospital bed in the next episode and ultimately healed with only a decent-sized stomach scar to show for it.
This isn’t the first time the franchise has seen survivors of lightsaber injuries – “Obi-Wan Kenobi” featured two such survivors with Reva and the Grand Inquisitor, whilst famously Darth Maul survived a full-on bi-section.
Even so, the event has led to nearly two days of chatter on Twitter with regular comparisons being drawn to the death of Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) who was similarly stabbed in the stomach by Darth Maul in “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” and died on the spot.
How do you feel about it? Feel free to sound off in the comments below.
Reaction to the first two episodes has been positive, but also divisive, with how tied the series is to the events of the animated series “Star Wars Rebels” being a sticking point for some. A 2/5 review over at The Guardian has drawn a lot of attention as well.
“Star Wars: Ahsoka” is only just getting started with the third episode to air next Tuesday.
