Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: Ahsoka” wrapped its finale tonight and for those wondering how it would close off so many dangling plot and character threads, the answer is simple – it didn’t.
Instead, what we got was a cliffhanger not unlike “The Empire Strikes Back” if you will with the baddies winning, a glimmer of hope and plenty of questions that we can only assume will be answered in future “Star Wars” media.
Whether that will be the upcoming “Skeleton Crew,” the fourth season of “The Mandalorian,” a potential second season of “Ahsoka” or most likely Dave Filoni’s proposed “Star Wars” film – it’s not clear at present.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “AHSOKA” SERIES FINALE
The episode does set up the stakes for a new phase of the Mandoverse with both Thrawn and Ezra back in the regular “Star Wars” galaxy and both Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren marooned on a planet in a distant galaxy.
Said planet contains a bunch of mysteries, one of which Baylan Skoll seems to be tracking in his single brief appearance in the finale. Just what might that be? What’s going on with those Mortis Gods statues or the appearance of the Morai (owl totem)?
Could this be the planet Mortis itself and thus there might be a way back to the regular “Star Wars” galaxy already there? Again it’s a wait-and-see situation, but one obvious yet grim question here is whether they will recast the late Ray Stevenson to close out his character’s story, or find some way to write around not including Baylan in future media.
Other questions are more basic – will Hera and Ezra somehow mount a rescue mission? How quickly will Thrawn rebuild his seat of power and will that tie into the genesis of the First Order? Will this be the last we see of Shin Hati?
Was it a satisfying finale for you, or just spinning wheels until the next entry in the mega-franchise comes along? Have your say in the comments below.
