“Ahsoka” Ep. 7 Resolves A Key Absence

Lucasfilm

This week’s penultimate episode of “Star Wars: Ahsoka” tackles something of a minor mystery surrounding the series.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR EPISODE 7 OF “AHSOKA”

Specifically, the episode finally faces a question many fans have been asked for the past few episodes now – where’s the late Carrie Fisher’s Leia during all this?

With the series taking place around a decade after “Return of the Jedi,” it means Leia has finished her Jedi training with Luke and is both serving as a Senator for the New Republic and raising a young Ben Solo.

The new episode gets around the need for her to appear onscreen by including Anthony Daniels back as C-3PO. His character arrives at the behest of Senator Leia Organa and explains Leia was unaware of Senator Xiono holding a vote over the matter in her absence.

C-3PO then addresses Xiono with a message from Leia that: “Asks that you address any further concerns to her directly in her role as leader of the Defense Council” – thereby admonishing Xono and helping Hera, all without even having to appear in person.

It marked one of the more unexpected scenes of the recent episode, which otherwise was mostly set around a windswept planet in another galaxy. It also confirmed that events here take place after the third season of “The Mandalorian” by Carson Teva, citing the battle with Moff Gideon on Mandalore in that show’s recent season finale.

Another sequence showed Ahsoka using the Force to call out to Sabine, with the latter sensing her presence – and for the first time showing her potential to be a Jedi, including her finally connecting with Ahsoka.

There were also other highlights from yet another appearance by Hayden Christensen as Anakin, this time as a holovid, whilst Grand Admiral Thrawn finally learns Ahsoka was Anakin’s apprentice – Thrawn being one of the few who knew Anakin was Darth Vader.

The episode shoots down the theory the Night Troopers are, like Marrok, undead (no green smoke). It also ends with Ray Stevenson’s Baylon Skoll now something of a wild card, his true agenda not clear. There have been online theories in recent days that Baylan is on a secret mission to kill the Skywalkers.

There’s just one episode left to wrap this all up. Where will it end? We’ll find out next Tuesday. What did you think of the episode? Have your say below.
