Warner Bros. Pictures will bring its current theatrical release “The Way Back” to Digital HD early, making the film available to purchase on Tuesday, March 24th for $19.99 – just over two weeks after it debuted in cinemas.
Ben Affleck stars in the Gavin O’Connor-directed film which follows a former high school basketball champ who gets the opportunity to coach the struggling team at his alma mater while contending with his alcoholism. It scored strong reviews and grossed $13.6 million at the domestic box office.
Toby Emmerich, Chairman, Warner Bros. Pictures Group says in a statement: “With audiences largely unable to view films in theatrical release under current circumstances, we have decided to provide the alternative of early digital ownership of our currently released titles to people looking for great entertainment options. So, while we remain big fans of the theatrical experience and hope audiences are able to return to cinemas in the near future, we understand that these are challenging times and offering this option simply makes sense.”
The film joins the pack of recent features making their way into homes much sooner than expected due to the coronavirus closing cinemas nationwide. Warners is also releasing “Birds of Prey” the same day.
Warner Bros. Pictures remains on track to release “Wonder Woman 1984” on June 5th in cinemas.
