Comedian and actor Adam Sandler’s output has been rather scattershot. At times you have some truly great films like “Punch-Drunk Love” and more recently “Uncut Gems,” or very solid comedies like “Happy Gilmore” and “The Wedding Singer”.
Then there’s plenty of decent stuff from “Murder Mystery” to “Fifty First Dates” to “Big Daddy”. However, there’s a lot of awfulness too like “The Ridiculous 6,” “Little Nicky,” “Jack and Jill,” “Click,” “The Grown-Ups,” and dramatic misfires like “The Cobbler”.
This week an old quote from CBS News the othe rmonth has re-emerged in the conversation as the now 53-year-old Sandler has gone on record saying he has never once phoned in any of his performances:
“Man, I don’t know what the downs have been. I mean, maybe in some people, when they write about me, they talk about my downs. But I don’t have any downs. I love every movie I’ve made. I’ve never in my entire career phoned one thing in.”
As part of the same interview, Sandler says the criticism “doesn’t hurt me anymore” though it did twenty years ago. Certainly Sandler remains popular with more than 70 million people watching “Murder Mystery” on Netflix last Summer.
