Two brief comments about Marvel characters caused a bit of a stir over the weekend.

Speaking at C2E2, actress Rosario Dawson discussed the future of the characters from Netflix’s scrapped Marvel shows. Dawson played Claire Temple in almost all of the Marvel shows on Netflix like “Daredevil,” “Luke Cage” and “Jessica Jones”.

As “Daredevil” actors Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio have joined the MCU as their Daredevil and Kingpin characters, it’s conceivable some of the other actors from those shows could crossover.

So could Dawson return? She revealed in a Q&A video that she’d be up for it and heard that the one character’s show she didn’t appear in she might finally get a chance to do:

“I heard [the SDCC] announcement, but I found out yesterday that ‘The Punisher’ is happening again. So, I feel like it’s my second chance because it was the only one of the [‘Defenders’] shows I wasn’t in, and I love Jon Bernthal. So, let’s all make it happen, collectively, you guys!”

Shortly after the video of her response went online, Dawson walked back the comments on Twitter, saying she got the information about a “Punisher” revival from overexcited fans:

“I can’t be trusted…! Getting intel from fans during signings is iffy, apparently. My bad. I get excited. Confirmation is key when you’re told what you want to hear.”

At present, there’s been no official indication of Marvel resurrecting The Punisher character and more specifically, actor Jon Bernthal’s interpretation of it which was seen in two seasons of his own series along with the second season of “Daredevil”.

For now, it seems the only thing happening is Dawson has her hand up, ready to reprise her former MCU role should the opportunity arise.

A similar situation would appear to exist regarding “Better Call Saul” actor Giancarlo Esposito who has also voiced his desire to play a specific Marvel character, in this case, Professor X of the X-Men.

Making an appearance at TJH Superhero Car Show & Comic Con in San Antonio this weekend, the actor revealed (via AV Club) that like numerous actors in Hollywood he’s had a brief initial meeting with Marvel about joining the MCU in some capacity in the future.

He reportedly acknowledged people wanting him to play a villain, but he said he would prefer a more heroic role like Professor X if he had the chance to pick.

However, much like Taron Egerton with Wolverine or Ryan Gosling with Ghost Rider, it seems to be mostly wishful thinking right now.
