Former “The Cosby Show” and “Malcolm & Eddie” alum Malcolm-Jamal Warner has died at the age of 54.

ABC News and TMZ report that Warner died as a result of an accidental drowning while he was vacationing with his wife and daughter in Costa Rica.

The reports indicate he was caught by a high current in the ocean and died of asphyxia. The Emmy-nominated New Jersey-born actor has kept his family life private in recent years.

Though he starred in a few films like “Drop Zone,” “The Tuskegee Airmen,” “15 Minutes,” “Fool’s Gold”, and “Shot”, among others, Warner was mostly known for his extensive work on TV.

His role of Theodore Huxtable on “The Cosby Show” was a cultural icon, granting him an Emmy nod and leading to a long career on the small screen. He was one of the main characters in sitcoms “Malcolm & Eddie” and “Reed Between the Lines,” along with shows like “Sherri,” “Ten Days in the Valley,” “Jeremiah,” “Here and Now” and more recently FOX’s “The Resident”.

He had recurring roles on shows like “Suits,” “American Crime Story,” “Community,” “Major Crimes,” “Sons of Anarchy,” “American Horror Story: Freak Show,” “Sneaky Pete”, and “9-1-1”.

Our sincerest condolences go out to his family, friends and fans.
