American acting icon Robert Duvall has died. A key figure in the New Hollywood era, Duvall passed away on Sunday at the age of 95.
Duvall died at home on his Virginia ranch “surrounded by love and comfort,” according to a statement from his wife, Luciana.
The actor first made his film debut as the reclusive Arthur ‘Boo’ Radley in 1962’s “To Kill a Mockingbird” and went on to deliver some famed film performances including his Oscar nominated work as Tom Hagen in the first two “The Godfather” films.
He landed another nomination for his portrayal of the gun happy Lt. Col. Bill Kilgore in “Apocalypse Now,” and then won an acting Oscar for his role in “Tender Mercies”.
He scored more nominations for his work on “The Apostle,” “A Civil Action” and “The Judge,” and delivered some indelible performances in films like “The Great Santini,” “The Natural,” “Open Range,” “Get Low,” “THX 1138” and the “Lonesome Dove” mini-series.
Other notable works included “Network,” “Tomorrow,” “True Grit,” “M*A*S*H,” “The Eagle Has Landed,” “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” “Joe Kidd,” “Days of Thunder,” “Falling Down,” “Rambling Rose,” “The Detective,” “Colors,” “The Paper,” “Deep Impact,” “Gone in 60 Seconds,” “Sling Blade,” “John Q,” “Crazy Heart,” “Jack Reacher,” “We Own the Night,” “Widows” and his final screen performance in “The Pale Blue Eye”.
