Sony Pictures Animation’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” has managed to soar past the half-billion mark worldwide, with its worldwide haul reaching $506.3 million through yesterday.
The film originally debuted at $120 million domestically and $209 million globally on the first weekend of June – making it Sony’s biggest animated launch of all time.
Buoyed by stellar reviews from both critics and audiences and strong word of mouth in multiple regions, including Europe, Asia and Latin America, it has managed to do great business and overtook the entire run of its 2018 predecessor after just twelve days of release.
It has also managed to rack up sizable box-office in China with $42.5 million, the UK with $26.1 million, Mexico with $24.2 million, Australia with $15 million and Brazil with $10.4 million. All up the international box office has contributed $215.9 million to date, joining the $290.4 million the film has made domestically.
It currently stands as the third-highest-grossing domestic release of the year behind only “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” at $572 million and Disney’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” at $345 million. Worldwide it is the fourth-biggest release of the year behind those two and “Fast X”.
With a $100 million budget, the film is already well into profit and is stirring excitement for the third and final entry in the ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse”, which will release in time for the Easter holiday weekend next year.
