J.J. Abrams, Bad Robot Productions and Warner Animation Group are set to produce three features based on Dr. Seuss literary properties reports Vanity Fair.
One is an adaptation of Theodor Seuss Geisel’s final book “Oh, The Places You’ll Go,” another is the “Cat in the Hat” spin-off “Thing One and Thing Two”. They join the previously announced new animated take on “The Cat in the Hat”.
Erica Rivinoja and Art Hernandez helm the new “The Cat in the Hat” which will arrive in 2024, the spin-off hits in 2026, and ‘Places’ is targeting a 2027 release. The three projects are set to take place in a ‘Seuss universe’ and those involved plan to interconnect them:
This marks Bad Robot’s first foray into feature animation. Hannah Minghella is producing all three projects and tells the mag: “For the first time we’re not just doing one film for one book. We’re going to franchise-build beyond the initial story of these books and find out what happens next… While it will all feel like part of the Seuss universe, they live in their worlds, and they’re not necessarily going to interact in the same films.”
They also plan to retain the anarchic yet sentimental tone of the original books, not forgetting these stories have “teeth”.
