ABC & NBC Cancel & Renew Multiple Series

The network upfronts are next week and today is turning into a bit of a bloodbath as the fate of shows that hadn’t already received renewal orders are being determined one way or another.

NBC has unsurprisingly renewed “Law & Order: Organized Crime” for a second season with the SVU spin-off set to join the original flagship show along with the new series “Law & Order: For the Defense” in a Thursday night block of L&O next season.

NBC has also greenlit the Dick Wolf docuseries “LA Fire and Rescue,” ordered a spin-off of “America’s Got Talent,” and have revealed that the eighth and final season of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will start airing in August right after the Olympic Games in Japan should they go ahead.

In addition, “The Voice” will be reduced to one cycle for next season rather than two. NBCUniversal has also entered into an overall talent and development agreement with Miley Cyrus that will encompass potential projects across scripted and unscripted content over NBC or Peacock.

Over on ABC, a handful of series have scored renewal orders with “A Million Little Things,” “The Rookie” and “The Conners” all returning for a fourth season, “Home Economics” is scoring a second while “The Goldbergs” is back for a ninth season.

Also scoring a renewal is the Kenya Barris comedy “Black-ish” with the new eighth season to serve as the show’s last.

ABC’s “The Wonder Years” reboot has been picked up to series as has the 90s female hip-hop group reunion dramedy “Queens,” and the school-set comedy “Abbott Elementary” and Rebecca Rittenhouse-led psychic comedy “Maggie”.

Not so lucky at ABC were the Kyra Sedgwick-led “Call Your Mother,” the Katey Sagal-led “Rebel,” the “Black-ish” spin-off “Mixed-ish,” the Katy Mixon-led “American Housewife,” and the 50 Cent-produced drama “For Life” – all of which have been cancelled.
