Focus Features has announced today that production has commenced on Robert Eggers’ highly anticipated new film “Nosferatu” based on the iconic F.W. Murnau 1922 silent film.
In addition, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (“Kick Ass,” “Bullet Train”) has joined the cast, joining the previously announced Bill SkarsgĂ„rd (“Barbarian”), Nicholas Hoult (“The Menu”), Lily-Rose Depp (“Wolf”), Emma Corrin (“Lady Chatterleyâs Lover”), Willem Dafoe (“Inside”), Simon McBurney (“Carnival Row”) and Ralph Ineson (“The Green Night”).
The film is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman in 19th century Germany and the ancient Transylvanian vampire who stalks her, bringing untold horror with him.
The project is written and directed by “The Lighthouse” and “The Northman” director Eggers who also produces with Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus. Filming is now underway in Prague.
It has been a long-gestating passion project for Eggers who has tried to get the film off the ground multiple times in the past. It nearly came together in 2019 with Anya Taylor-Joy and Harry Styles starring, but ended up hitting logistical issues.
Taylor-Johnson will next be seen in the title role in Sony’s Marvel Comics-inspired film “Kraven the Hunter”. He recently wrapped production on “The Fall Guy”.
