“IT” star Jaeden Martell and “West Side Story” breakout Rachel Zegler lead the cast of the teen comedy “Y2K” for A24.
It’s New Year’s Eve 1999 and two high school nobodies decide to crash the last big party before the new millennium. When the clock strikes midnight, the night gets more insane than they ever could have imagined.
The project hails from actor/comedian/writer and former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Kyle Mooney and Evan Winter. Mooney will direct and Winter will produce from a screenplay they wrote.
Also starring are Julian Dennison (“Deadpool 2”), Lachlan Watson (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Mason Gooding (“Scream”), Fred Hechinger (“Fear Street”), Alicia Silverstone (“Clueless”), Tim Heidecker (“Us”), Eduardo Franco (“Stranger Things”), Miles Robbins (“Blockers”), Daniel Zolghadri (“Funny Pages”) and The Kid Laroi
Wētā Workshop will handle the film’s design and practical effects, though it’s not quite clear how extensive they will need to be. Chris Stoner, Matt Dines, Ali Goodwin and Jonah Hill will produce.
Hot off their multiple Oscar wins for “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” A24 has several major releases on the way including Ari Aster’s “Beau Is Afraid,” Sean Durkin’s “The Iron Claw,” Nicole Holofcener’s “You Hurt My Feelings,” Kelly Reichardt’s “Showing Up,” Celine Song’s “Past Lives,” and the Steven Yeun and Ali Wong-led Netflix series “Beef”.
