A24 has announced it will release its sports drama “The Iron Claw,” starring Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White, in cinemas nationwide on December 22nd.
The date puts it up against Universal and Illumination’s animated comedy “Migration” on the same day and two days after the Jason Momoa-led superhero sequel “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” on December 20th.
Sean Durkin (“Martha Marcy May Marlene”) wrote and directed the film about the tragic, true story of the Von Erich family – a dynasty of professional wrestlers who made history in the intensely competitive sport in the early 1980s.
The brothers not only had to battle inside the ring, but also outside, they were plagued with a series of tragedies.
Efron plays Kevin Von Erich alongside White as Kerry Von Erich, Harris Dickinson as David Von Erich, Holt McCallany is Fritz Von Erich, Maura Tierney as family matriarch Doris, and Lily James as Kevin’s wife Pam.
Currently in post-production, the film isn’t expected to hit the film festival circuit. Tessa Ross, Juliette Howell, Angus Lamont produce and check out the first photo from the project below.
