In a rather brilliant bit of promotional mashup, Architectural Digest has teamed with Warner Bros. Pictures to produce a seven-minute featurette offering a tour of the sets of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” movie.
Actress Margot Robbie offers a behind the scenes exclusive tour of the Barbie Dreamhouse created by skilled production designer Sarah Greenwood and set decorator Katie Spencer.
The overall Barbieland town takes inspiration from Palm Springs midcentury modernism. There’s no outer walls in sight in this fuchsia pink fantasy land where slides replace stairs.
From waterless pools to so many different gradations of pink for all the surfaces, it’s a celebration of practical sets and inventive design to bring toy playsets to life on a truly grand scale.
Also confirmed today via AMC Cinemas is the film’s runtime which is said to clock in at around 114 minutes. The film has been rated PG-13 for “suggestive references and brief language”.
“Barbie” is set to hit cinemas on July 21st where it’s expected to compete with both Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and the second weekend of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One”. Which one will come out on top is anyone’s guess at this point.
