A Third “Hocus Pocus” In Development

Disney

It’s official, a third “Hocus Pocus” movie is in the works, with President of Walt Disney Pictures Sean Bailey confirming the news as part of an interview with The New York Times about Disney’s live-action slate.

Bailey would only confirm the project’s existence, saying: “Yes, Hocus Pocus 3 is happening,” but not going into any further details.

The original “Hocus Pocus” film beings as the wicked Sanderson sisters (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy) are put to death in Salem in 1693. The trio cast a spell to guarantee their eventual return.

In 1993, a group of kids accidentally resurrected them and had to fight all of Halloween night to return the sisters to their graves. The original did fine in its 1993 theatrical run, but in the years since, it became a staple of the Halloween season.

That led to the greenlighting of the sequel, which was released 29 years later directly to the Disney+ service. That film, which became the number-one domestic film debut for Disney+ at the time, included a post-credits stinger hinting at a potential third entry. Looks like it has come to pass.

Bailey has spearheaded many of Disney’s live-action remakes in recent years, including the recent theatrical release of the live-action “The Little Mermaid”.
