Warner Bros. Pictures has set Jorge R. GutiƩrrez as director of an animated feature centered on the classic Looney Tunes character Speedy Gonzales reports THR.
GutiĆ©rrez himself previously teased the possibility on Instagram last month, posting a photo of himself holding a Speedy Gonzales figurine and adding: “Guess what movie I might be developing at Warner Brothers Pictures Animation.”
GutiĆ©rrez co-created Emmy-winning series such as “El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera” and “Maya and the Three” along with the 2014 film “The Book of Life”, which Guillermo del Toro produced.
Story details are under wraps, and a writer has not yet been announced. The popular Looney Tunes character debuted in the 1950s in an Oscar-winning Merrie Melodies short film.
The character was most recently seen in 2021’s “Space Jam: A New Legacy” with Gabriel Iglesias voicing him.
Warner Bros. previously a film reboot over a decade ago with Eugenio Derbez cast in the lead role.
