Pixar is reportedly developing a sequel to its beloved 2007 animated family feature “Ratatouille”.
Jeff Sneider broke the news earlier this week on The Hot Mic, saying the project is now in early development at the studio. No further details were available.
The report follows in the wake of Pixar’s newest original feature “Elio” debuting to the worst opening weekend for a Pixar film to date, raising obvious concerns about the future of the company if it’s not able to successfully launch new IP.
It also suggests Disney is likely to double down on sequels in the near future, which makes this not a surprise – the title joining “Toy Story 5,” “Incredibles 3” and “Coco 2” all currently in the works.
Brad Bird directed the original film which is set in Paris and follows a young rat Remy (Patton Oswalt) who dreams of becoming a chef at Auguste Gusteau’s (Brad Garrett) restaurant and tries to achieve his goal by forming an unlikely alliance with the restaurant’s garbage boy Alfredo Linguini (Lou Romano).
The title became a critical and commercial success with a gross of $623.7 million worldwide and won the Best Animated Feature Oscar.
