David Lynch’s mysterious new feature project, first rumored two years ago, looks to be premiering at the Cannes Film Festival next month.
Variety, in a recent Cannes prediction piece, says two well-informed sources of theirs have indicated the Lynch feature will play at the event. We know Laura Dern and some other Lynch regulars will have roles, but any further details are under wraps.
Lynch has suggested he had long retired from feature-length filmmaking in recent years, indeed his last traditional feature was 2006’s “Inland Empire” though he has made many shorts and of course helmed the entire eighteen-episode run of the “Twin Peaks” revival back in 2017.
Talk of Lynch’s next has hinted at a rumored title of “Wisteria” and could be either a standalone film or an extended pilot of an upcoming series.
Either way, it’s expected the project will be announced this week as part of Cannes’ first major line-up announcement. David Cronenberg, George Miller and Kelly Reichardt will also have films playing at the festival.
