A Lot Of “Supergirl” Is In IMAX

Warner Bros. Pictures

Filmmaker Craig Gillespie has revealed that the upcoming “Supergirl” film is one you are going to want to see in IMAX.

Recently, the film had a presentation at CCXP Mexico 2026 in Mexico City where Gillespie and star Milly Alcock shared 15 minutes of exclusive footage and a new trailer.

But the biggest reveal came when discussing the film’s use of IMAX cameras. It turns out, it appears as though a good chunk of the film was made for the giant format screen. He tells Spoiler:

“There are some massive action sequences in this. We have a lot of action, a lot of large set pieces that in fact we’re going to have it in IMAX as well, which I think we have about an hour and ten minutes of IMAX footage, so it’s really exciting and we didn’t hold back.”

In the film, Supergirl (Alcock) travels across the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto the Superdog. When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice.

Also starring are Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills, Jason Momoa as Lobo, David Krumholtz as Zor-El, Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze and Alice Hewkin as a Sklarian Raider.

Ana Nogueira penned the script while Craig Gillespie directs. The film is slated to release on June 26th in the US and internationally from June 24th.
