Robert Zemeckis (“Flight,” “Contact”) is attached to direct “Marwencol,” a narrative feature film adaptation of the 2010 documentary of the same name which Universal Pictures has optioned.
The doco followed Mark Hogancamp, a man coping with severe memory loss he suffered after he was attacked and beaten by a group of teenagers.
Left with no memory of his life, he began building a one-sixth scale model of a World War II-era Belgian village in his backyard as a form of therapy.
The process helped partially mend his mind, and allowed him to escape into a fantasy world. Zemeckis is reportedly trying to get Leonardo DiCaprio for the lead role.
Caroline Thompson (“Edward Scissorhands”,” “City of Ember”) is writing the script.
